ALUMNI STORIES: VIRGINIA SCHOEPE

VIRGINIA SCHOEPE

Virginia Schoepe’s affiliation with Fullerton began well over thirty years ago in 1971. She enrolled in her first physical education class that year; since then she has taken almost every class FC offers.

In 1992, Mrs. Schoepe, then 77, began a workout regiment under the direction of Jeff Jespersen, who teaches the principles of personal training at FC. His effectiveness in meeting her needs has had a direct bearing on the Schoepe’s continuing interest in helping us upgrade our facilities. “Virginia has been a wonderful example to all as a human being dedicated to health and fitness,” says Jespersen. ‘And Adolf always supported Virginia and these values. They never asked for or sought any type of recognition. The Schoepe’s have truly been friends of the Fullerton College and the Fullerton community.”

When budget cuts hit Fullerton College in the early 1990’s, the physical education facilities were near the bottom of the list for renovation and maintenance. Mrs. Schoepe, feeling that she had a vested interest in helping the college, kindly offered a donation to replace the tattered windscreens around the outdoor tennis courts. That was followed by a donation to buy much needed weight equipment for the FC strength lab. Fullerton College’s Virginia Schoepe Wellness Center is named in Virginia’s honor whom, along with her husband Adolf provided the funding to outfit the Wellness Center and the Strength Training Lab. At the center are 35 cardiovascular machines, ten weight machines and two weight benches. The center offers a program through the school of Continuing Education and is open 49 weeks a year.
