STAFF STORIES: DR. RAJEN VURDIEN

DR. RAJEN VURDIEN

DR. RAJEN VURDIEN

A native of the island nation of Mauritius, Dr. Vurdien came to the United States in 1985 from China where, as a United Nations volunteer working for the United Nations Development Program, he taught English and ran the UN language programs.

Dr. Vurdien has extensive knowledge of the community college system with strengths in the areas of strategic planning, budget, accreditation, curriculum, student services and distance education among others. He is fluent in several languages with native speaker fluency in English, French and Creole; and has a working knowledge of Spanish and Chinese. His parents engrained in him the importance of education and its ability to excel one far in life. Dr. Vurdien worked past hurdles and challenges always believing that nothing happens by luck and every situation, no matter how difficult, was a blessing in disguise. Dr. Vurdien encourages students to never wait for tomorrow, but achieve what they can today.

Father of two, avid jogger, addicted crossword puzzle solver and senior chess player, Dr. Vurdien seems to fit the archetypal presidential mold quite well. Dr. Vurdien is the Eighth President in the history of the college since its establishment as part of the Fullerton Union High School District in 1913. Committed to the success of Fullerton College, Dr. Vurdien is eager to meet the challenges faced by the college and help students reach their hopes and goals.

You have to work hard for whatever you aspire for.
